After SafeTrx: leaving your passage with someone ashore

RYA SafeTrx closed in the UK at the end of 2025. HM Coastguard's advice now is to tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back. This plan writes that down for them.

Nothing is uploaded. The plan is written into the link itself, and the draft stays in this browser.

Pebbls isn't an emergency service and can't send help. In an emergency, call the local emergency number.

What closed

SafeTrx was the RYA's app for logging a passage, a boat and her crew with the Coastguard. HM Coastguard adopted it in 2018 in place of the old CG66 form. On 1 December 2025 the Coastguard announced it would close on 31 December, and the tracking went with it. In Ireland, Irish Sailing's SafeTrx app is still running.

What the Coastguard asks now

In its notice about the closure, the Coastguard asks you to tell someone at home where you are going and when you expect to get back, and to carry a VHF or DSC radio, a personal locator beacon, or a phone in a waterproof pouch. If you're late, that person calls 999 and asks for the Coastguard.

What this plan does, and doesn't

It puts the boat, the crew, the passage, your check-ins and the time to raise the alarm in one link and on one printed page. Your contact gets a reminder at each worry time and a button to ring the Coastguard. It doesn't track you, and Pebbls doesn't watch the clock or alert anyone. If you want your track on a map, the Pebbls app can share it live.

Questions people ask

Is SafeTrx still available?

Not in the UK: it closed on 31 December 2025. In Ireland, Irish Sailing still has a SafeTrx app.

What happened to the CG66?

The CG66 form was replaced by RYA SafeTrx in 2018, and SafeTrx has now closed too. The Coastguard's notice of the closure didn't name a new scheme.

My boat was registered on SafeTrx. Where are her details now?

The Coastguard's notice says the data has gone to HM Coastguard, and that changes go to safetrxdata@mcga.gov.uk.
