Packing list builder
A checklist of what to take, made for your trip. Say what kind of trip it is and how long you're away, then change anything on it and tick it off as you pack.
Only the things you'd miss
There's no padding. If something's on the list it's because you'd miss it, and where it isn't obvious why, a short note says so.
Clothes stop at a few days' worth because nobody carries a fortnight of socks. The list assumes you'll wash things as you go.
The weather where you're going
Add where you'll be and when, and the list fills in how warm it's likely to be from thirty years of weather records. A cold month brings a warm hat and a thermal layer; a wet one brings a waterproof.
Long trips, month by month
For a trip of several months, add each place with its months. You see the usual weather for every month, and things you only need later are marked, so you can send them ahead or buy them there.
Weigh it if you like
Switch the list to Weigh to see what it all comes to. Every item starts with a typical weight. Type in your own and it goes into My kit, so your next list already knows it.
It stays where you left it
Your lists are kept in this browser, and with your Pebbls account if you sign in, so they're on your phone and your laptop too. When you come back the ticks are where you left them.
Before the next trip, untick everything and use the same list again, or make a copy and change it for somewhere colder.
Send it to whoever's coming
A shared link carries the whole list, so the person you send it to can keep their own copy and tick it off on their phone. You can also print it, or save it as plain text for your notes app.
Questions people ask
What should be on a packing list?
Start with what you can't buy on the way: papers, medicines, glasses, chargers. Then clothes for the coldest and wettest day you expect, footwear you've already worn in, and whatever the trip needs to sleep and eat. The builder does this for you from a few answers, and you change the rest.
How do I make a packing list?
Pick the kind of trip and the list appears. Then set the nights, how warm it will be and where you'll sleep, and the list changes to match. Tick things off as they go in the bag. You can add your own things to any group, take things off and move them about.
Is there a packing list I can print?
Yes. Open your list and press Print. It prints as a plain checklist with boxes to tick, without the rest of the page.
Can I share a packing list with someone?
Yes. Press Share and send the link. The list travels inside the link, so they see it without signing up, and they can keep a copy of their own.
Where are my lists kept?
In this browser, and with your Pebbls account if you sign in, so a list is there on every device you use. A list kept only in the browser stays until you delete it or clear your browser's data, and a private window may not keep it at all. Without an account, share the link with yourself to move a list.
How many clothes should I pack?
Fewer than you think. For a city break or a week away we suggest one set a day up to seven, then washing. On a trek or a bike tour it's two or three sets and a wash most evenings.
Does it cost anything?
No. You don't need an account, and there's no limit on how many lists you make.
Where does the weather come from?
From CRU TS 4.10, made by the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. It's the average of 1991 to 2020 for each month, on a grid of about 50 km, so a town in a valley or by the sea can differ a little. A wet day is one with at least 0.1 mm of rain. The data is shared under the Open Database Licence, and our climate tiles made from it are too.
