Hiking safety plan

For a hill day or a few days on a trail. Your route, the time you'll be back and who to call, on one page and in one link.

Nothing is uploaded. The plan is written into the link itself, and the draft stays in this browser.

Pebbls isn't an emergency service and can't send help. In an emergency, call the local emergency number.

What mountain rescue will want to know

If you're overdue, the team will ask whoever has your plan where you were heading, which way you meant to come down, what you're wearing and carrying, and where you parked. The plan puts all of that on one page, with how to call for rescue in the country you're in.

Draw the route or load a GPX

Tap or click along the paths on the map, or load the GPX from your watch or planning app. Add a few checkpoints with rough times, a summit or a hut, so they know how far you should have got.

Short days

When the days are short the light goes early. Check the sunrise and sunset for the day, and make your back time one you can keep in daylight.

Questions people ask

What do I leave with someone before a hike?

Your route, where you're parking, when you set off, when you expect to be back and the latest time before they should call for help, plus what you're carrying. This page turns that into one page and a link.

Who do they call if I'm not back?

In the UK it's 999 or 112, asking for the Police and then Mountain Rescue. Elsewhere the plan shows the numbers for the country you choose, taken from official sources.

What if I change my route on the day?

Message them. If you made the plan here, change it and send the new link, as the old one still shows the old plan.

Does it work for a walk of several days?

Yes. Choose A few days at the start, then set a check-in for each evening and where you'll be sleeping. Your contact gets a worry time for each one.
