KMZ to GPX

A KMZ is a KML file in a zip, which is how Google Earth and My Maps often save routes. Drop one here to get a GPX out of it.

Your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to change KMZ to GPX

  1. Drop the KMZ here or choose it.
  2. Check the route on the map, then press Save as GPX. It goes to your downloads.

What's inside a KMZ

A KML file, and sometimes the pictures used for its icons. We open the zip in your browser, read the KML and leave the pictures out. Lines become tracks and named places become waypoints.

Questions

Can I get a KML instead?

Yes. Choose KML in the list and you'll get the route from inside the zip as a plain KML file.

What if it says there's no route file inside?

The zip has no KML, GPX, FIT or TCX file in it. A KMZ from Google Earth or My Maps always has one, so if yours came from somewhere else, check it opens in Google Earth.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Your browser opens the zip on your device. Nothing leaves it unless you press the button to make a film.
