Turn your Suunto workout into a 3D video
Make a 3D video of a trail run or a ski tour you recorded on your Suunto watch, with your photos in it, then save it and share it. It’s free up to 200 km. The GPX file comes out of the Suunto app on your phone in a few taps.
Get your route file from the Suunto app
It’s called a GPX file. You do this in the Suunto app on your phone, not on the watch.
Suunto app › Your workout › ··· › GPX
- Open the Suunto app and open the workout you want.
- Tap the three dots at the top right.
- Choose GPX and save the file to your phone.
- Pick GPX, not FIT. A FIT file won’t load here.
- If you’re offered a GPX of the workout or of the route, either works. The workout one keeps the times, which we use to guess how you travelled.
- A workout recorded without GPS only exports as FIT, and it has no route to fly along.
The Suunto app map or a film
The Suunto app shows your workout as numbers and a line on a map, which is what you want for training. A film is for the people who weren’t there. The camera follows your line over 3D terrain for about a minute and stops where you took your photos, and you save it as a video to post or send.
Tips for a better film from Suunto
Trail races
Put a moment at the top of the big climb and one at the finish, with the photo someone took of you crossing the line.
Runs can look like rides
We guess from your speed, and a quick run can come up as cycling. Change it to Running before you make the film.
Ski tours
Skiing is one of the choices in the editor. Set it for the stretches on skis, the same way you’d mark a ferry.
Ultras and long trips
The free film stops at 200 km. For anything longer, pick the stretch to keep, or make a Premium film of up to 2,000 km.
Three steps, a few minutes
Add your route
Upload a GPX from your watch, bike computer or app, or trace it on the map. It follows roads and paths, or goes straight across water.
Add moments
A name, a line or two and up to three photos at each place that mattered. The film slows down and shows them.
Get your film
We make it and email you the link. Download it, post it, send it to everyone who came along.
Questions
How do I get a GPX file out of Suunto?
In the Suunto app, open the workout, tap the three dots at the top right and choose GPX. Save the file and upload it here.
Can I use the FIT file?
No, Route to video reads GPX only. GPX is in the same export menu.
Why can’t I export some workouts as GPX?
Workouts recorded without GPS, such as a treadmill run, only export as FIT. With no route there’s nothing to film.
Can I add photos from my phone?
Yes. Add a moment at each place that mattered and pick up to three photos for it from your camera roll.
