Turn your Outdooractive tour into a 3D video
Make a 3D video of a walk or a ride you recorded or planned on Outdooractive, with your photos in it, then save it and share it. It’s free up to 200 km and there’s nothing to install. The download sits in the same menu on the website and in the app, and we’ll show you where.
Get your route file from Outdooractive
It’s called a GPX file. You can download one for a route, a plan or a track, and it takes a few seconds.
outdooractive.com › Your plan or track › ··· › GPX
- Sign in at outdooractive.com and open the route, plan or track.
- Click the three dots at the top right.
- Choose GPX. The file downloads straight away.
- In the app, open it, tap ⋮ at the top right and choose Export GPX. Then save the file to your phone or email it to yourself.
- A plan you haven’t walked yet has no times in it. That’s fine. You tell us whether it’s on foot or by bike.
- Many routes on Outdooractive come from tourist boards. A film of one of those makes a good preview before you go, but it’s their line, not yours.
Why make a film of a tour?
Outdooractive is where a lot of walkers and riders in Germany, Austria and Switzerland plan their tours, and where many tourist boards put theirs. That’s the planning side. A film is for afterwards, and for the people who weren’t there. It runs for about a minute and your photos sit where you took them.
Tips for a better film from Outdooractive
Hut to hut
Film the planned route and send it to the people coming with you. Make the one with your photos when you’re home.
Passes and ridges
The camera flies over the terrain in 3D, so a day over an Alpine pass shows how far you climbed.
Boats on the lakes
If you crossed a lake by boat, mark that stretch as a ferry in the editor and the film shows a boat there.
Long-distance trails
A trail of several days is often one long route. The free film stops at 200 km, so pick a stage, or make a Premium film of up to 2,000 km.
Three steps, a few minutes
Add your route
Upload a GPX from your watch, bike computer or app, or trace it on the map. It follows roads and paths, or goes straight across water.
Add moments
A name, a line or two and up to three photos at each place that mattered. The film slows down and shows them.
Get your film
We make it and email you the link. Download it, post it, send it to everyone who came along.
Questions
How do I download a GPX file from Outdooractive?
On the website, open the route, plan or track, click the three dots at the top right and choose GPX. In the app, the ⋮ menu has Export GPX.
Can I make a film of a tourist board route?
Yes, any GPX file works. It’s their route, so treat the film as a preview. After you’ve done it, film your own recording with your photos.
Does a planned route work without times?
Yes. Without times we can’t guess how you travelled, so you choose walking, cycling or something else for each stretch.
What if I only have a KML or FIT file?
It won’t load. Route to video reads GPX only, so download the GPX from the same menu.
